School Information
Henderson North School is a
contributing primary school, situated in Waitakere City. We have a
multi cultural role of children from many ethnic backgrounds, this
cultural diversity is acknowledged and affirmed in the classroom.
Henderson North is a “Quality School”, this means that we follow Choice Theory and try to meet each child’s need for
- love and belonging
- power and success
- freedom and choice
- fun
In this way we want children to look forward to coming to school each day and to feel that what they are learning at school has some value to them.
We talk about quality - that it is something that adds quality to our lives, that it can be improved upon each day, that it makes us feel good and it is something we are proud of, and it is the best we can do.
Achieving quality helps children feel better about themselves because they are achieving success. They feel a sense of belonging to the class and school, they find freedom in their ability to work and self evaluate, and ultimately they will find learning more fun.
For children to produce quality work and quality behaviour they need to know the criteria against which they will measure their efforts. Children are taught to self evaluate.
We are a Glasser "Quality School",
following a philosophy which meets the needs of children in a
consistent way as they learn and play. Children are encouraged to make
effective choices in their learning and relationships. Our open door
policy ensures that all parents are fully involved in their children's
education during their time at Henderson North School.
At Henderson North we value the
importance of educating our pupils for an ever changing world. The
Inquiry learning process and intergration of the New Zealand curriculum
are essential to providing our students in becoming self directed,
independent and motivated learners.
Our children experience a wide range
of co-curricular activities. These include sporting, cultural,
musical, artistic, and leadership opportunities. These extend and
enrich children's life experiences and also help support children's
learning.
