Our Learning

Henderson North is a contributing primary school, situated in Waitakere City.  We have a multi cultural roll of children from many ethnic backgrounds, this cultural diversity is acknowledged and affirmed in the classroom.  Henderson North is a Glasser "Quality School", following a philosophy which meets the needs of the children in a consistent way as they learn and play.  Children are encouraged to make effective choices in their learning and relationships.  This means that we follow Choice Theory and try to meet each child's needs for;
  • love and belonging
  • power and success
  • freedom and choice
  • fun

In this way we want children to look forward to coming to school each day and to feel that what they are learning at school has some value to them.  We talk about quality - that is something that adds quality to our lives, that it can be improved upon each day, that it makes us feel good and it is something we are proud of, and it is the best we can do.

Achieving quality helps children feel better about themselves because they are achieving success.  For children to produce quality work and quality behaviour they need to know the criteria against which they will measure their efforts.  They feel a sense of belonging to the class and school, they find freedom in their ability to work and self evaluate (which they are taught), and ultimately they will find learning more fun.

Our open door policy ensures that all parents are fully involved in their children's education during their time at HendersonNorth School.

Outside the classroom

Learning happens out of the classroom too!  We appreciate the support of our community as we rely on fundraising to make some of these experiences available to our students.

eLearning

Using eLearning teaching resources the children sometimes don't realise they are learning or consolidating their learning.

Here a variety of resources to help support what they are learning at school.
