Welcome to Room 15 (2020)

Look, it is our fierce hockey game !

We are super focused to learn kids power in our workshop! It's an amazing strategy for protecting ourselves.

Let's have fun!

We are very lucky to have room 7 to be with us, creating the cherry blossom paint together! Thank you so much!
Hey! We are ready for the Wig and Hat Day!
We enjoy singing One Day a Taniwha and making actions on our own to celebrate the Maori language week! We also do some Maori arts and make our paper Taniwha! Yeah!

We classify the beautiful fallen leaves by colour, shape and size and introduced my favourite leaves to my buddy. Then we created our leave print arts work.

Fun Friday! We've learned place value and created our turtle arts with different texture.

We collected leaves, twigs, pine cones from our beautiful school and created our nature facial expression arts. Then we brought the remaining resources back to nature!

We are creating our own feeling boxes and feeling drawings!

We've created beautiful arts work as well as writing.

The first day of our coming back to school. we made our own paper plane and had a great fun in the fields.

Come and join our engaging activities in Seesaw! If you are interested in this, please contact me awu@hns.school.nz.

We're having fun at home!

Creating Marble Runs

Picture
Picture
We had a marble run challenge.  My team was Jazmine, Joseph and me.  My teacher recorded us on an ipad. I had so much fun, but when we had to get up I was a bit shy but I did my best and I did it.  I was so happy.

I had a group of my friends helping me to make a marble run.  Gravity pushed the marble.

On Wednesday 8th August we made a marble run.  It was so fun because we made it out of cardboard.  The annoying part was the tape because it sticks everywhere.  The marble run works by gravity.  The gravity pulls the marble, then the marble rolls down the cardboard faster. The steeper, the faster the marble goes, the flatter the slower the marble rolls. If it gets too steep the marble just falls because the gravity pulls the marble down.  If we had no gravity we would just fly.

A few days ago we started to create a marble run.  My team is called the VIP Sliding Crew.  We are still working on ours because we keep restarting.  When we tested the marble run, the marble fell off and landed on my nose!  I told Jenna the marble fell on my nose and she kept on laughing.

We constructed a marble run.  Me, Jazmine and Aariah and the rest of our class had a competition.  Our group tried to o zig-zags, but we kind of did it like a C a little bit.  We tried our best to make it longer because at the bottom I had to push it.

The VIP Sliding Crew had been making a marble run. Jenna was the taper, Riya was the funnel maker and Ashari was the person who built the marble run with us helping.

We investigated how the speed of the marble is affected by the steepness of the ramp.  We measured how far and fast marbles rolled from different ramps. This helped us to understand how to slow down the marble as it moved through the marble run.

Me, Maddison and Angeline built a marble run and we created it.  When the marble was at the top it went down because the steep hill made it go faster.  When it came down it went slower and far, but when it went fast it went quicker and further.

We created a marble run.  The steeper the faster, the flatter the slower, but don’t make it too flat or the marble will stop.
                                           By Donte

We created a marble run.  My team was Filo, Angeline and Maddison.  Whaea Jennie was videoing it.  Filo put the marble in the marble run.
If it is steep, it will roll fast. If it isn’t seep it will go slowly because if it is steep gravity pulls it down.

Me, Ashari and Riya made a marble run and I was the taper and I made a store of it.  Ashari was the builder. Riya was the person who put tape on the pieces in her work shop and the funnel maker, but our marble run didn’t turn out that good.

So we made our marble run big and named it The Amazing Slide VIP Wolf Gang.  We rolled the marble and it made it to the end.  If we push less the marble will go slow, if we push lots the marble goes fast.  When we put it steep the marble goes fast, when we put it less steep is goes slow because it is not steep and it’s less gravity.

I made a marble run with my class and we made our marble run and we tested the marble run and it didn’t work sometimes.

We made a marble run.  We designed our marble run with our creativity.  Our marble run was a fail but we tried our best to make the marble run.  When we started the marble run I was nervous.  A t the start it worked but at the end it didn’t because everything kept on breaking and tape kept on falling off.  The thing that ruined it was the end of our marble run because no one helped.
                                           By Shiggaion

We made a marble run at Henderson North School.  It was fun.  We used toilet paper rolls and cardboard to make the marble run.  We used sellotape.  It went fast and slow. Our teacher Whaea Jennie was videoing it.

We made a marble run yesterday with toilet rolls.  When it has a long cardboard folded it goes fast because gravity is pulling the marble down.
In the first part it was slow, but when the long piece came it went fast because gravity was pulling the marble down.

We made a marble run and it went so fast that it landed on the ground and we finally made a video for the classroom to watch with the teacher because she was making a video.

I made a marble run.  The marble goes in a zig-zag.  The marble went around and it went down and a little bit straight.  When the marble is at the end there;s an old basket at the end.  It was fun.  When we were finished we did a video of our marble run.  We had so much fun when we built it.                                                                                              By Carla

Theo, Blayze and Manu have created this amazing piece of art.  They were inspired by Mine Craft.  All the characters are hand drawn and coloured, cut and then sellotaped onto the castle.  They have painted, taped and cut the castle and moat.

In term 3 Room 15 are looking through windows. We have looked out of an aeroplane window at

In Room 15 today we were learning a few songs in music. As you can see above we are learning to sing a song and we did very well today.
In Room 15 we are learning about the different organs in our bodies and what they do to help us live everyday. We learned about our heart and lungs and learned what they do to help our bodies work correctly. Please watch the video above to hear us talk about our digestive system.
,In Room 15 we created chest vests of our heart, lungs and rib cage. We learned that we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. The oxygen we breath in, goes into our lungs and then our blood. Our heart pumps the red, oxygen rich, blood around our body.

In Room 15 we went to Pak and Save where we learned about how the ship in food from other places and how they make different types of food in New Zealand to sell under the Pak and Save Brand.

In Room 15 we are good at listening to each other and the teacher.  We are smart and enjoy being learners, we can write neatly, do guided reading and love buddy reading.  We can finish our work on time.  We like to make good choices and follow the school rules.  The 5 B's teach us to be nice to others when they are new, be friendly and to keep your hands and feet to yourself.  In Room 15 we love colouring, swimming, making technology things, playing on the playground and being good role models.

Term 2

During Term 2 we learnt all about Space.  We investigated the sun, and why it is so important for life on Earth.
We investigated shadows, and what they tell us about the Earth and Sun.
Our shadows moved, and got longer and shorter, over the course of the day.
We painted our own versions of Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.
We then painted the sky around the moon and stars, and finally used pastels to create the tree and village in the foreground.  We were really pleased with our results.
We painted the moon and the stars first using orange, yellow and white paint.

Meet the Room 15 crew of astronauts!

We learnt about the force of gravity, and what it would be like living in space with zero gravity.  We created our own rockets. and investigated how parachutes create drag, which slows things down.  We tested these parachutes and these are our winners.  We are all now Space Experts!
Welcome to Room 15.  We are a mixed class of Year 2 and 3 children, our teacher is Whaea Jennie and Whaea Alba is our Teacher Aide.

This term our topic focus is on books, and we have been reading all about the sea.  We have read about all the different creatures in the sea including jellyfish, sharks and crabs.  We have read of sea adventure with pirates and mermaids, and 'Dad's Takeaways' in which the children collect Kaimoana from the ocean.  On Friday the 18th of March Ngatahi (Rooms 13, 14 and 15) will be having a trip to the beach where we can have our own seaside adventure!

We are now moving onto dry land, where the children are keen to read about spiders and scorpions, and other minibeasts.  This will be led by the children's interests, so who knows where it will go next!

Term 1 - Maths

Making Pictographs with Wine Gums.
Week ending Friday 18th March

On Wednesday we invited our Buddy Class (Room 4) to swim with us.  We buddied up and swam together, the older children helping and supporting the younger children.  It was a wonderful session and many of the children learnt new things and had a great time in the pool.  The Room 15 children wrote about the fun they had:
  • Paeyton - I had the best fun in the water when I put my head under the water in the deep side.  I did it all by myself without any help from my buddy.
  • Jordan - My buddy did a flip in the water.  He did a back flip and then he said to me to do a front flip.  I did.  It was fun.
  • Selena - I went in the pool with my buddy and I loved it and it was fun.  I did a back flip.  I love swimming at the pool.
  • Samuel - My buddy was telling me to do a front flip so I did it for him.  I had a go at floating on my back and I had fun.
  • Phillip - My buddy was telling me how to do a front flip.
  • Trisha - Me and my buddy were sitting on the board and we nearly felel in the water, and I went under the water.
  • Kingston - James was my swimming buddy.  He was good at teaching me.
  • Mataio - When my buddy said "Can you lie your body on the water?", I said "Yes, I an."  He dropped his ball and I saw the ball and I got it, and he said "Can I have it?" and he said "Thank you for giving the ball to me."
