Dear Students
Let's do it again!
On this class page you can find the tasks for each subject and some links for extra learning. Please do all the work in a notebook and you may show that to me after two weeks.
There's going to be one task for Maths, one task for Reading and one task for writing. However for Reading do visit https://www.sunshineclassics.co.nz/. I have assigned books for everyone. You can read and do the activities based on the book if only you have a device. Else you may read the books you can find around you in the house.
Please do not hesitate to contact me using either my email or Roll and Rendezvous button if you have any doubts.
Do remember that Roll is a must. If the only device you have is a phone, you may e-mail me.
So let's begin!

Today is Friday 28th August, 2020

Yey!!!!! It's Friday today, so let's make it a fun filled Friday!

Maths: You may either do
https://maths.prototec.co.nz/    or practice https://www.timestables.co.nz/

Reading: Read a book of your own choice.

Writing: Complete the weekly writing task. Edit it and place your book in your bag so that you don't forget it to bring it to school on Monday. You may publish your work if you like, otherwise bring it as it is.

Today's Art/Craft activity. This activity could be done by using some Newspaper or any magazine paper or any scrap paper you have in the house. The only thing you will need is glue and/or paint.
Here is the recipe of home made glue if you need. You might need an adult to help you with this.

Picture
Here is the link to make a newspaper bowl/ basket.
You can also create your own masterpiece using scrap paper or unwanted materials in the house.

Have a nice weekend! See you on Monday!

Hot Buttered Popcorn (Poem)

Every Sunday night my dad makes his treat,
when he makes hot buttered popcorn to eat!
Hard corn kernels spill into a dented pot.
Before long, the stove is just right hot!

Just in time, dad claps on the lid.
It doesn't match the pot-and what if it did!
Pop, pop, pippity-poppity, bong-bing!
Just listen to that popcorn sing!

The popping slows and then it stops full.
Out comes the hot popcorn into our big family bowl!
We watch a movies, play cards, eat, laugh and even fight.
That's the best part of popcorn on a Sunday night!

Answer the following questions based on the above poem.
  1. How often does dad make popcorn?
  2. Mark out one line of the poem which best describes the popcorn.
  3. what does the family do on a Sunday night?
  4. Name the two adjectives that are used in the poem to describe the popcorn.
  5. How and were do you like to eat your popcorn?
  6. Write 5 words that rhyme with pop.
  7. Guess the words with the help of the clues beginning with pop:
  • Pop........(four letter word, the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church)
  • Pop........(five letter word, a plant famous for its red or orange flowers)
  • Pop........(eight letter word, flavoured and coloured water frozen on a stick)
Fun fact: Did you know that there are more than 4000 ways to use this popular crop, (corn) and scientists are discovering evn more ways to use corn every day.

Writing
You should have at least three paragraphs by now. Continue your writing task so that you can finish it off by Friday.

Today's tasks are as follows:
Maths: Do not get confused with the Maths task. Just think out of the box and you can do it. Look at the following code and find out what is missing?

Picture
I would expect you to do some tasks on Prodigy if possible.

Reading: Today's task is based on some inferencing exercise.
1. Where am I?
  • I am all dressed up, sitting here quietly with my parents. The flowers are pretty. The music is starting. There she comes down the aisle. I wish they would hurry so I can have some cake?
  • Let’s all sit in the from row! Ha ha ha! That’s funny…a cartoon about a drink cup that is singing to a candy bar. That makes me hungry. I think I’ll get some popcorn before it starts.
  • I can see rivers and highways that look like tiny ribbons. I am glad I got to sit by the window. Wow, we are in a cloud! yes, ma’am. I would like a drink. Thank you.
2. Every one knows the story of Cinderella....that's what I assume. If you don't, then describe a character you've recently read about.
Today you will need to write 5 qualities that describe her character. You will also need to write down the reason why you think so.
For example: She was hardworking as she used to do all the chores in the house all day with a smile on her face.

Writing
You should have done the planning and should have written the introduction and at least one paragraph by now.
Continue writing your story so that you could edit it on Friday.

Read the poem and answer the questions. Today' s poem is a challenge!

The Song of Nature

The raindrops are suspended from
the wild rose stems,
Are they glittering tear-drops or
unattainable gems?

The leaves flare in myriad colours-
orange, yellow and red.
As they gradually and graciously fall
making the autumn bed.

Snow-flakes slip from the sky like loft
white butterflies,
As hey brush the trees with their
flimsy wings with inaudible sighs.

Answer the following questions:
  1. What are the leaves of the tree described as?
  2. How are raindrops described in the poem?
  3. Why are the snowflakes being compared to butterflies?

First of all you must be waiting for the answers for Maths questions from yesterday.
1. So this was my equation: 40 + 36 - 29 + 25
2. My answer was 293. However 662 is also correct. Did anyone get any other answer?

For Reading  there is no right or wrong answer. It was so good to see some of you inferring the picture so well.

Let's see if you can do today's Maths equations.

Today's tasks are as follows:

Maths
1. I am in a similar problem as yesterday. Can you put mathematical signs in between the numbers and complete the equation? The answer is: 88 This time you may use X if the need be.

2 5 2 3 0 2 6 3 4

2. Use the following digits to make a 2-digit + 2-digit equation. You don't need to use all of the numbers. The sum of your numbers should be 31.

1   0   2    4  1

Reading

Down, down
Yellow and brown,
Fall the leaves
All over the ground.
Rake them up
In a pile so high,
They almost reach up to the sky!

1. What colour leaves fall down?
2. Why do they change colour?
3. What season is this poem about?
4. What are the kids doing with the leaves?
5. Is it fun raking up the leaves?
6. Why do they rake the leaves up?

Ko te Rāapa tenei ra, te tekau ma iwa o Here-turi-kōkā

Hello Students!
Thank you for marking your attendance everyday!

I have an important notice before you look at today's tasks.
The tasks I give you everyday are very simple activities that could be done independently without any help. So when you look at a problem read it a few times and spend some quality time to solve it. The reason I wanted you all to do your work in a notebook was that you shouldn't spend too much time in front of the screen.
The Maths questions need to be done as per instructions. When you are thinking and making mistakes your brain cells become active and they grow.
I hope you all understood my point. We will be meeting on Thursday at 9:30. More information will be sent to you via email.

Today's tasks are as follows:

Maths
1. I wanted you all to solve the following equation, however forgot the + and - signs I had used initially. I do remember that the answer was: 72
Could you put the + and - sign between the numbers and rewrite the equation.

4 0 3 6 2 9 2 5 = 72

2. Mystery Number:
  • I am a 3-digit number
  • The digit at tens place is 3 times the digit at ones place.
  • The sum of the digits is14
3. Could you write a mystery number and share with me?

Reading
Picture

Look at the picture carefully and try to infer what does this picture tell you. for example Who is this girl? What does she want?  Who is the man?
Write down everything you understand from this picture. You should be able to write more than 5 sentences.

Writing: Continue writing about the topic from Monday.
Music: Please go on school website and find our learning. Mrs Templeton has saved the song for our class, so please practice your part. You know it better than me.

Today's tasks are as follows:

Maths
Target number: 150
Use the following numbers to go as close as the target number.

3, 20, 75, 31, 25, 4, 6
You don't have to use all the numbers, however one number can only be used once.
You may use addition, subtraction, multiplication or division

Challenge :452
33, 20, 75, 9, 25, 1, 6
Make sure you do this work in a book so that we could have a discussion later on.

If you have done yesterday's working out, please revisit them to check if you had shown more than one strategies to solve the questions.

Reading
Mary had a little lambMary had a little lamb,
It's fleece was white as snow;
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school one day
Which was against the rule;
It made the children laugh and play,
To see a lamb at school.
And so the teacher turned him out,
But still he lingered near;
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear
"What makes the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry;
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know,"
The teacher did reply.
Today it's your turn to write at least one question using the QAR strategy. Draw the table the way I did yesterday and write one question for each category. You are more than welcome to write more. Take your time and do not rush. I would like to see all the questions at school and we'll make a question bank based on this rhyme.

Writing: Continue writing about the topic from yesterday.
Warm-up Writing task: How many different ways can you make a sentence using the following words.

Reading
You know this rhyme very well... don't you? Let's use this rhyme to answer some questions. Look at each question very carefully using QAR (Question Answer Relationships)

Baa, baa, black sheep
Have you any wool?
Yes, sir, yes, sir
Three bags full
One for the master,
And one for the dame,
One for the little boy,
Who lives down the lane.

So today is our last day of learning from home so I would like you all to make the most of this left over time. I am going to do the same! I will be planning my week with you all, will be finishing off my house chores and will spend some time with my family. You also should have some fun with your family.
I am very proud of the work most of you have been doing . Some of you have not been able to share your work, however I know you've been working hard at home.
Today there are no tasks for you!!! All I would like you to do is to have to prepare yourself for the week ahead. You may also play the online games of finish off the tasks you were not able to finish before.
It is not going to be the normal we had before the lockdown so please be prepared for the changes we'll have in the classroom.
The school plan has already gone home but I would like you all to attend the zoom meeting so that we could discuss it further. I will leave the link on the discussion page.
Have a long weekend!! I am very excited to see you on Monday!

Till then take care!

Welcome to our Virtual Classroom.
Thank you for letting us know if you will be attending school from Monday. If you haven't done it yet could you please do it ASAP so that we could make proper arrangements to look after you all.

Today all the teachers will be at school organising and preparing for Monday. Your tasks are going to be super easy and super simple and yes there are only three tasks.
You may play some online maths or reading games if you like.
Task 1: The following video shows 6 different craft activities. Try and make as many as you can. Do not worry if you don't have any coloured paper, you may use any kind of paper you could find around you. (Make at least two)

Task 2: If you are able to save all your work in the folder on discussion page please do that. Don't stress out if you don't know how to do that.
Task 3: We all will be coming to school after so many weeks and Covid is still around us. So today your task is to list or write how do we keep all of us safe in the school and in the classroom. What measures do we need to take to minimise the risk of getting infected?
Please think about it, talk to your family members and discuss what needs to be done in the classroom to keep everybody safe.

Welcome to our Virtual Classroom.
Thank you to those who shared their Mother's Day stories with me. I would not put them on the website as they have quite a lot of details about your lovely mums. I felt very proud while reading those myself though.
We start learning instructional or procedural writing at a very early age. for example recipes.
So when you do that genre of writing please follow the template. Try to elaborate the whole procedure.
Today's tasks are as follows.

Task 1: Writing a story: Today you will need to write a story. The topic is "Egg". You may choose an adjective for it eg. A magical Egg, Dinosaur's Egg or you may chose the title as 'The story of a lost egg'.
This task needs to be completed in 2 days which means please don't share just 1 paragraph with me. Try to write an Introduction, create a problem in the story, solve the problem and then summarise it. Try to use some interesting words in there too.

Task 2: How many words can you make out of the word 'Celebrations'?
Task 3: Maths problem: For Easter the Teacher decided to give chocolate eggs to the 29 students in her class. She puts the eggs in little baskets to be taken home. Each basket could hold 6 eggs only.
She goes shopping to buy chocolate eggs and finds packets of 20. If she gives every child a basket full of chocolate eggs, how many packs does she need to buy?
Task 4: Can you drop an egg without breaking it?
Task 5: Start making routines to come back to school from Monday!!

Welcome to our Virtual Classroom.
Today we all are going to find out whether NZ is ready to go to Level 2 or not. If the Prime minister decides for it we will see each other very soon ie. on 18th May, 2020.
I am going to call this week 'Egg week'. We will be doing some work around 'EGGS'
So here are your tasks for today. You can do these tasks in any order.
Task 1: Make Veggie Eggpops

You will need: Carrots (Cut in long sticks)
                              Celery (Cut in long sticks)
any dipping sauce of your choice for example hummus, guacamole, ranch or any other sauce you like.
Hard boiled Eggs (1 egg per family member)
Preparing hard boiled eggs is the most tricky part. I would like you to note down the time needed for the eggs to become hard-boiled. It depends on the eggs too. Ideally it should take at least 10 min to get the eggs ready. This task may need some adult supervision as the water is very hot.
Insert the celery stick or the carrot stick into the boiled egg.
Dip in the sauce and ENJOY!!!

Picture

Task 2: Write down your favourite recipe made with eggs. Make sure you write the ingredients and materials needed and write down the procedure too.
Task 3: Use the following phrases in your own sentences.
1) Egghead: An intelligent or studious person)
2) Walk on eggs: to act with great care
Task 4: Maths problem.
I bought 1 dozen eggs from the shop. I decided to use those eggs for three different recipes, so I placed them in three bowls

Picture

The Red bowl had 3 more eggs than the yellow bowl and the green bowl had 3 less eggs than the yellow bowl. How many eggs did I place in each bowl?

Kryton's story based on yesterday's task!!! Wonderful Effort!!

Once upon a time there was a girl who lived in a small town. She was a very lively and fun loving girl. She had a lot of friends in the town that she used to play with. One day while she was playing on the hill-side just by herself she spotted a blue umbrella! She went closer to the umbrella, inspected it from all the angles and fell in love with that...........................
Colour, that shade of blue just made her feel like she could see her reflection in the ocean. She picked up the umbrella and the moment she touched its black handle, it began to rain. Startled, she dropped the umbrella and it stopped raining.
She realised it was getting late and she had to go back home because it was getting dark, so she quickly picked up the umbrella and ran home. By the time she got home she was soaked. The next morning she stared curiously at the umbrella and thought it was all a dream. She decided to test it’s powers to see if it was a dream. She stepped closer to the blue umbrella and examined the colour again. She noticed something strange, when you looked closely, it looked like waves of different shades of blue rolling around like the sea on a stormy day.
Amazed, she showed her friends but they did not believe her, so when she touched it to prove a point, it didn't work. She felt angry and stormed off (pun intended). She walked alone back to the hill-side where she found the umbrella. But as soon as she was out of sight it started raining again.
When she made it back at the hill, she dropped the umbrella in the same spot she found it, and it disappeared before her eyes. She freaked out and was paralyzed with fear. Then, in the blink of an eye, it returned but was a different colour. It was red.

Because she was curious, she touched it and it started to burst out fire from the tip of the umbrella. She dropped the umbrella immediately. She knew if she touched it again, it would burst out with flames so she grabbed 2 wooden pieces and used them to grab the umbrella. She didn’t want it to fall into the hands of evil. The girl took the umbrella to a cave and then threw it into a sealed compartment in the wall of the cave. This compartment was one of thousands to hide the umbrella from anyone looking for it. She then blocked off the entrance of the cave with rocks and boulders. Then she planted trees to help keep it hidden.

The girl went home alone and swore to never speak of this to anyone.

Look at the picture above. I cut up a square into four triangles and tried three different shapes. This is just an example for you all to complete yesterday's task. You will need to make more!!
Picture
These are a few examples of clocks-craft. You will need to take a look before you do today's tasks.

Today's Tasks are as follows:
Task 1:
Prepare yourself for the Zoom meeting at the same time. Please do bring some discussion points.
Task 2: Complete yesterday's maths task and share with me. Please check the example I've given you.
Task 3: ART: Today you will making a clock using whatever is available at home. Paper, paper -plate, cardboard...absolutely anything you can find. Be creative!!!
Task 4: You will also need to make some fake or play money. Now for this you will need to think what sort of denominations we have in NZ.(Notes and coins)
What can you use to make that play money? Use any scrap material you can find around you. You can personalise it too if you like!!!

You can complete the tasks over the weekend. Next week's Maths will be based on time and Money. So it is quite handy to have a clock and play-money by your side. We could have easily done this at school using the resources we have.

Challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prableen and Disha love jelly beans and always fight over them. Dad told them to share those jelly-beans with other members of the family too.
When the jelly-beans were put in groups of 2 there was one jelly-bean left over.
When they were put in groups of three, five and six there was also one jelly-bean left over.
But when they were put in groups of seven there were no jelly-beans left over. How many jelly-beans could there be?

It's Friday today and some of you are catching up on previous tasks. Hence I am only going to give you one task, however you might take a bit longer to do it.
So the task is based on reading a book. Those who can use a device to read should read online and others could find a book in the house to read and do the activities. Do not worry if you've read the book already. The online books could be accessed here:

https://www.myon.com/school/remotereading

I could have chosen a book for you, but you all have different likings and interests. So choose the genre( genre means what group does the book belong to. Is it historical fiction or religious or fantasy or adventure or...) you would like to read and then do the following activities based on the book.
1. Write the genre of the book and why did you choose this book to read?
2. What is this book about? Write the summary of the book in one paragraph.

It was so nice to chat with you guys yesterday and to look at your beautiful faces.

I am not going to tell you the solution of the Maths problem yet. You have one more day to grapple with the problem and I will reveal the answer on Friday.

I can see that some of you are making a huge effort to complete your tasks. Those who have any kind of issues, all you need to do is talk to me.

I have found another site for interesting books. they are quite easy, but have good wordings and you can watch them too. Please try them out and let me know if the link is working. I don't think it needs any password.
Here's the link.
https://watch.vooks.com/browse

Today's tasks are as follows:

Task 1:
Fitness: How do you keep yourself fit these days. you can't go to the park, you can't play with your friends. What sort of physical exercise are you doing?

Make a list of all the activities you've been doing and what else can you do to keep fit.
Don't forget to share with me.This is a writing task.

I do 10-15 min of exercise in the morning and I go for a 30 min walk in the evening. I would love to do more but I do not have the time. My daughter likes to do the walks with me and she likes to do skipping. My husband goes for very long walks with my dog Sammy.

Task 2:
Me time: Do you get any me time? Me time means when you are doing something on your own, no body is in your hair.....Other than being on  a device of course. In my opinion colouring in or doodling is the best activity to keep your mind calm. Try doing some doodling and share with me.

Task 3: Walk: Get out of the house for a walk and collect a few interesting things you could find. I got very late for my walk so couldn't find much. Here is the photo of what I collected. Your task is to collect those things, draw them and describe them. How do they look, how does the texture feel like, what is the size and anything else you can tell and explain.
Two different types of leaves, a fig, a pine cone, a toy insect and a dried bean pod.
Picture

Task 4: Use a Straw to Stab a Potato (Science Experiment)
Is it possible to stab a potato with a drinking straw? Find out with this fun science experiment that shows how air pressure can be used in surprising ways.
You will need

*Stiff plastic drinking straws
*A raw potato
Instructions
1.Hold a plastic drinking straw by it sides (without covering the hole at the top) and try quickly stabbing the potato, what happens?
2.Repeat the experiment with a new straw but this time place your thumb over the top, covering the hole.

This is what happens: Placing your thumb over the hole at the top of the straw improves your ability to pierce the potato skin and push the straw deep into the potato. The first time you tried the experiment you may have only pierced the potato a small amount, so why are you more successful on the second attempt? Covering the top of the straw with your thumb traps the air inside, forcing it to compress as you stab the straw through the potato skin. This makes the straw strong enough to pierce the potato, unlike the first attempt where the air is pushed out of the straw.

Task 5: Reading: Quiet reading for more than 20 min. Try to improve your stamina!!
Task 6: Maths:10 min of Prototec and revising your timetables.
Task 7: Share your Anzac art and bat art with me please.

🥳 Following is the hard work of my students in the lockdown. Thank you to all the students and their parents/ caregivers.

What would you do when you come out of lockdown?

I do not like being locked in my house but I do understand why the Government has asked us to stay home and stay safe. It’s making me feel like I’m in my own personal jail but I like that my whole family is at home together at all times. It is nice and interesting to see my aunt and dad working from home and being on the phone talking or on video conference calls having their work meetings.

First thing I would do after the lockdown ends is go see my mum and spend time with her. I haven’t seen her or spent any time with her since the lockdown begun as we were only allowed to stay within our own bubble. I’ll get my mum to cook me chicken Biryani because she makes me really yummy and spicy. I would tell mamma all about what I did during the lockdown and how I am schooling from home.

Also I would like to go swimming at Mission Bay beach with my older sister Disha and my dad. After we finished swimming, I would have fish and chips for lunch from the Fish Pot shop in Mission Bay and ice cream from the KiwiYo, make your own ice cream shop. After that we will go for a walk along the beach, playing on the sand and be silly. As I love Star Bucks I would ask my dad to get me ice mocha from Star Bucks.

Then I will go visit my uncle who lives in Hastings with his two dogs. Their names are Jojo and Meg. My older sister used to call dogs jojo when she was little so when my uncle bought her he named her Jojo. Jojo, Meg and I love playing together and when I go to see my uncle I give them a bath, brush their hair and I also get them to sleep with me in the my bed. I love them a lot.

Today is Wednesday 15th April, 2020

Ko te Rāapa tenei ra, te tekau ma rima o Paenga-whāwhā

Welcome to our Virtual Classroom.
Roll: Please mark your presence using the button: Who is here
Today we are going to organise ourselves for the virtual classroom

Task 1: Get yourself familiarised with the school website and the classroom page. You may already know it or might need help to do so. Also check the Discussion button. This is for you to directly chat with me. I will leave this open for two hours today ie. from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Task 2: Find a notebook that you could use for doing all the tasks. If you don’t have a spare notebook you may collect some blank papers from your parents, caregivers or elder siblings.
Task 3: I am going to leave a page open  for today only where you will find your passwords for a few websites we’ve been using in the classroom. I have already shared your individual passwords with your parents, however its your job to write them all down in one place so that you could use them when needed. Passwords button is at the end of today's page.

Task 4: Make rice
Yess! you will be making some rice today and all the other tasks are based on this hands on activity. You will need an adult’s supervision to do one step. Be careful though!

Let’s make rice!

Recipe
Ingredients and materials you’ll need.
1 cup rice
2 cups water
a pot with lid
a pick of salt

Procedure/ Method

  • Get 1 cup of rice from the kitchen pantry.
  • Put the rice in a sieve and rinse with water thoroughly. If you don’t have a sieve you may also wash your rice in a bowl. You may need some help to do so.
  • Measure two cups of water and pour into a pot with the salt. Let the water boil.
  • Add the rise rice to the boiling water. DO NOT DO THIS STEP BY YOURSELF. REQUEST AN ADULT TO DO THIS FOR YOU.
  • when you add the rice to the boiling water the temperature will drop so let it come to a boil again. Turn the stove to low and cover the lid.
  • Set the timer for 20 min.
  • Now check your rice. If you see some water still there, leave it there for another 2-3 min.
  • Once all the water is absorbed by the rice turn the stove off and let it rest.
  • Now enjoy your rice with some meat or curry or with butter.
Let me know how did it turn out?

Task 5: Make a list of words that you could think of after making rice. Those words could be the materials  or equipments you used or the method you use.
for example when we make a cup of hot chocolate we could make the following list.
hot, cup, chocolate, milk, spoon, stir, microwave, drink, marshmallow and so on.
Task 6: Write a rhyming word for each word in your list for example:
hot-cot, cup-pup

Task 7: Have a chat with your whanau about different recipes you make with rice eg rice pudding, fried rice etc and write it down. I will choose some recipes to be shared with everyone.

So we are at Covid-19 Level 3 going into Level 4 from Wednesday. As parents and caregivers we all know what we need to do and we have plans in place already. Safety of our people and community comes first, however our junior members will require more attention and busy work.
As teachers we are trying our best to keep the learning going. In today's digital world it is possible for our kids to learn from home.
Let's team up and work closely for the benefit of our students.
To do so, please keep visiting our school website to find out more about 'work at home'.
For the students in Room 5, I will be uploading some useful websites and tasks that my students can access from home. If you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to e-mail me at: schawla@hns.school.nz
We'll get through this crisis together.
In the mean time stay home, stay safe.

Reading Task: So listen to the story   https://www.storylineonline.net/books/enemy-pie/
What message did you get from the story?
If you were making a friendship pie, what ingredients would you put in?

26th March, 2020 Rua Tekau ma Ono, Poutū-te-rangi

Good morning all!

So here's the task for you all that you could do with your caregivers and siblings.
In shops with lots of ice-cream flavours there are many different flavour combinations, even with only a 2-scoop cone.  With 1 ice-cream flavour there is 1 kind of 2-scoop ice cream, but with 2 flavours there are 3 possible combinations (eg vanilla/vanilla, chocolate/chocolate, and vanilla/chocolate).
  • How many kinds of 2-scoop cones are there with 10 flavours?
  • What about “n” flavours?
  • Create a poster that represents your whanu's thinking.

*I have e-mailed your parents some information regarding reading tasks. Please email me back for your passwords.

*Are you reading any books from your bookshelf?? How was 'enemy-pie'?

Cindy's response to the problem! good job Cindy!

So we are all home, weather also is not in our favour....how about finding your pack of cards out and play some games with people in the house???

Break the Bank at 27  2 - 5 players
Getting Ready Deal out all of the cards to the players. Players put their cards into a pile in front of themselves with cards face down.

Play the Game The first player turns over their top card and places it in the centre. The next player turns over their top card placing it on top of the first card. This player adds the value of the two cards and tells everyone the total. The next player does the same adding the value of their card to the previous total. Play continues until the total reaches 27 or over. The player that puts down the card that takes the total to 27 or over takes all of the cards in this pile. This player takes the cards and shuffles them it into their pile. Play continues for a set time or until one player has no cards left.

The winner is the person with the most cards.

..................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Largest Number 2 - 4 players
Getting Ready Use only cards with 1-9 for this game. Select the number of digits to be used in the numbers for this game, e.g. 2 digit numbers, 3 digit numbers, 4, 5 or 6 digit numbers. Each player is dealt that number of cards.

Play the Game Players arrange their cards to make the largest possible number with the cards that they have been dealt, e.g. with cards 2, 5 and 8 a player would make 852. The player with the largest number in each round scores a point.

The winner is the player who scores the most points.

Part of our Term Topic - Through the Window we looked back through the "Windows of Time" at clothing.  How did clothing look, what was it made from and how is it different from what we wear now.  We thought dressing up in 'olden day' clothes would be fun and you can see how much clothing styles have changed.
