Symmetry
STEP 1 Watch the video up to 2 min 30sec Now try to find objects in your house that have symmetry - like a light bulb, the pepper grinder, a glass - look for more. Record 10 objects that have symmetry, then draw them and put the line of symmetry in. STEP 2 Watch the segment on Rotation from 2 minutes 30 to 3 minutes 35. It uses some terms you haven’t heard of like congruent which means the same and isometric translation which means no change in size or shape. Rotation is just moving a shape or object around a point. Now draw or trace a shape, anything you like. Put a point on the paper and rotate the object around it. Make sure it stays the same distance away from the point as the original one. If you’re not too sure about this find an object to trace. Tape a piece of string to the object and hold the other end of the string to the point of rotation. Now move it around the point of rotation and trace it |
Now go to the site below and make a snowflake - count the number of lines of symmetry in your snowflake.
